New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones is in concussion protocol one day after being injured during Sunday’s 44-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

Jones was injured when he attempted to score on a running play in the second quarter. He was stopped at the 1-yard line after he collided with Dallas linebacker Jabril Cox.

Jones headed toward the sideline and paused and bent over at his waist near two officials. When he resumed walking, he stumbled and quickly was attended to and eventually was carted off with 2:58 remaining.

“In terms of Daniel, he’s in the protocol,” Giants coach Joe Judge told reporters on Monday. “So, we won’t know anything officially on where he’s at until later in the week. He’s gotta take his steps by the league mandate he has to go through. We’ll kinda wait patiently and get the other guys ready as we wait on him. Hopefully he gets the opportunity to play.”

Star running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) also was carted off during the contest. He was injured in the opening quarter after two carries for 9 yards.

Judge said the 1-4 team was waiting for a diagnosis on Barkley but that X-rays came back fine.

“It was a little bit of a sigh of relief,” Judge said.

Receiver Kenny Golladay departed with a hyperextended knee while rookie cornerback Rodarius Williams torn the ACL in his knee.

Also, receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton have missed the past two games with hamstring injuries. And rookie Kadarius Toney tweaked an ankle against the Cowboys and his status won’t be known until later in the week.

Mike Glennon replaced Jones at quarterback against Dallas and completed 16 of 25 passes for 196 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He would be in line to start Sunday’s home game against the Los Angeles Rams if Jones isn’t cleared.

The 24-year-old Jones was 5-of-13 passing for 98 yards before exiting. He has passed for 1,282 yards, four touchdowns and one interception and also leads the Giants with 197 rushing yards. Jones has two rushing touchdowns.

Barkley, 24, had returned to full form after missing most of 2020 with a torn ACL he suffered in Week 2. He has 195 rushing yards on 54 carries with two touchdowns.

The 27-year-old Golladay was targeted three times in the first half on Sunday but didn’t have any receptions. He has 17 catches for 282 yards this season.

Shepard has 18 receptions for 223 yards and one score and Slayton has seven catches for 127 yards and one touchdown.

Toney has a team-best 20 catches. He is second with 281 yards.

Toney posted season highs of 10 catches for 189 yards against Dallas before being ejected in fourth quarter for throwing a punch at Dallas safety Damontae Kazee.

Williams, a sixth-round draft choice out of Oklahoma State, had one tackle.
