BALZER'S H-BOMB

Look for Colts to play Bears tough

Almost 20 years ago, a caller to my radio show in St. Louis suggested I do an H-Bomb each week (many people call me H) in which I would predict that a big NFL favorite (6½ points or more) would not cover and possibly lose the game outright that week. I started doing it and somehow won 10 straight weeks.

The record hasn’t been as good since, but the H-Bomb has lived on, and is always a challenge and fun.

The goal is to not only pick an underdog that could cover, but also one that has a decent chance of winning. The games are tough ones this week, which is often the case at the start of the season.

The five eligible games with Friday lines are Chicago (home) 10 over Indianapolis, Philadelphia (away) 9.5 over Cleveland, New Orleans (home) 7.5 over Washington, Houston (home) 12 over Miami and Detroit (home) 7.5 over St. Louis.

Frankly, it appears an upset win won’t happen in these games. Call me crazy, but I like the Colts to cover against the Bears. Now, watch as quarterback Andrew Luck goes out and plays like a rookie!

Each week, we will review these games, and keep a record of how often the underdogs win or just cover. Feel free to email me ([email protected] ) with your picks.
