Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marquise Goodwin claimed a silver medal in the long jump at the Pan Am Games on Wednesday in Toronto.

American Jeffery Henderson won the event with a leap of 28 feet 1/4 inch. Goodwin jumped 27-1 3/4 and Emiliano Lasa of Uruguay took the bronze at 26-9.

Goodwin won two NCAA long jump championships while in college at the University of Texas and is a two-time U.S. outdoor champion. He also placed 10th in the event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London — his last track and field competition before the Pan Am Games.

Goodwin was able to fit the competition, held in nearby Toronto, into his schedule before the Bills’ training camp begins July 30.

“My teammates give me a hard time about that all the time,” Goodwin told ESPN. “‘Hey, if you catch the ball and get in an open field, I want you to long jump from the 10 into the end zone.’ … I might make it happen one of these days.”

In two seasons with the Bills, the 24-year-old Goodwin has 18 catches for 325 yards and three touchdowns and has rushed six times for 21 yards.
