Arizona Cardinals pass rusher John Abraham’s excused absence from training camp is expected to come to an end soon. Coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Abraham will be in shape when he reports, when the veteran will likely meet with media to explain in his own words what has kept him away from the Cardinals.

Abraham was arrested on drunk driving charges in late June in an Atlanta suburb and has a court date set for Aug. 20.

Arians said there will be some rust for Abraham to knock off, and hoped getting to camp this week is possible with more than two weeks left to prepare for the Sept. 8 opener in Glendale, Ariz.

“A lot of the new stuff that we have right now he hasn’t been exposed to,” Arians said. “There will be a learning curve but, hopefully, he’s going to have over 20 days to be ready.”

Abraham could be subject to NFL discipline depending on the outcome of his pending legal matter.
