LOS ANGELES — San Francisco Giants center fielder Angel Pagan will have season-ending surgery this week to repair a bulging disk in his back.

Pagan missed six of the Giants’ last seven games. He was forced to leave in the sixth inning of Friday’s game against the San Diego Padres after experiencing tightness in his back. He hasn’t played since.

“It’s just time to do something about it,” Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. “It’s been nagging him for about three or four months, and it’s not getting any better. Get it done now so he will be a full go in spring training.”

Bochy said he believed Pagan’s recovery time would be about three months.

Pagan, the club’s leadoff hitter, batted .300 with three home runs and 27 RBIs in 383 at-bats. He also scored 56 runs.
