The Milwaukee Brewers reached agreement with left-hander Neal Cotts on a one-year, $3 million contract, according to reports on Thursday.

Cotts will sign Friday after the Brewers clear space on their 40-man roster, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The pitching staff is short on left-handed relievers after losing Zach Duke and Tom Gorzelanny through free agency during the offseason.

The 34-year-old Cotts bounced back from elbow and hip injuries that kept him off the mound from 2010 through 2012. In 2013, he posted an 8-3 record with a 1.11 ERA in 58 games. Last year, he was not as effective, slipping to 2-9 with two saves and a 4.32 ERA in 73 appearances.

In 415 career appearances, Cotts has a 20-24 record with a 4.05 ERA for the Chicago White Sox, Chicago Cubs and Rangers.
