Outfielder Giancarlo Stanton and the Miami Marlins reportedly are discussing a deal that would give Stanton the largest contract in pro sports history.

The Marlins and Stanton are in talks on a deal that would be for at least 10 years and pay Stanton at least $300 million, CBSSports.com reported, based on sources.
Shorter contracts have also been discussed, but it is apparent the Marlins want to sign Stanton.

“We’re having continual dialogue,” Marlins general manager Dan Jennings said, according to the report. “I wouldn’t say we’re close to anything.”

Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has a 10-year contract worth $292 million that began last year and is currently the biggest contract in pro sports.

Stanton’s current contract with the Marlins runs for two more years. He is projected to earn $13 million in arbitration in 2015, according to a projection by Matt Swartz for MLBTradeRumors.com.

Stanton led the National League with 37 homers and a .555 slugging percentage, and he was second to the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen with a .950 OPS. Stanton also had a .288 batting average with 105 RBIs this season.

Stanton suffered a season-ending injury this season when he was hit in the face by a pitch on Sept. 11.
