The Cleveland Indians signed injury-plagued pitcher Gavin Floyd to a one-year contract on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old right-hander is trying to come back from elbow problems that have sidetracked his career.

In June, Floyd suffered a broken bone while throwing a curveball for the Atlanta Braves that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. He was starting his ninth game after recovering from Tommy John elbow ligament surgery that limited him to five starts in 2013 with the White Sox.

Floyd has a 72-72 career record with a 4.40 ERA in 196 starts and 12 relief appearances with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago White Sox and Braves.
