The Chicago Cubs, looking for a left-handed specialist, reportedly will sign left-handed reliever Phil Coke.

“It’s not a secret we’re seeking that left-handed kind of specialist, but it’s also nice to have that lefty that can get out a righty,” manager Joe Maddon said Thursday. “I’ve seen Phil Coke a lot in the past, and he was able to get righties out as well.”

Left-handed hitters are hitting .243 against Coke over his seven-year career, but right-handers have hit .303.

In 62 games for the Detroit Tigers last season, Coke put together a 3.88 ERA. In his career with the New York Yankees (2008-09) and Tigers (2010-14), he is 22-27 with a 4.16 ERA.
