–Running back LeSean McCoy is back in the news again for the wrong reasons. He has been under investigation since mid-July for an incident that took place at a home he owns in Georgia. His former girlfriend, whom he had been trying to evict for months, was beaten during an invasion at the home and the woman’s friend accused McCoy, via her Instagram account, of having played a role in the episode. There has been no proof that has come to light that McCoy orchestrated the attack — he was in Miami at the time — and he quickly denied any involvement.

The former girlfriend, Delicia Cordon, has accused McCoy of abusing his son in the past, a charge McCoy has also denied. No charges have been brought, and the NFL has not meted out any discipline against McCoy, pending the investigation.

There was a turn in the case Tuesday, though, and it could prove to be problematic for McCoy. The mother of the boy, Stephanie Maisonet, revealed that she had previously filed an incident report that seems to corroborate what Cordon had said regarding McCoy’s treatment of his son. Maisonet and McCoy share custody, and she said on several occasions the boy had come back to her with bruises on his body.

“I feel like I am sending our son to a monster every two weeks,” Maisonet said in her affidavit. She then added, regarding the home invasion of which she apparently thinks he played a role in: “He should not get away with potentially orchestrating this heinous incident.”

McCoy took to his Instagram to address Maisonet: “The allegations made against me today regarding my relationship with my son are provably false, outrageously inaccurate and offensive. I have a loving and close knit relationship with my son. That boy is my whole life. With a custody case coming up in November, I can see why these false allegations are surfacing.”

McCoy could be in danger of being placed on the commissioner’s exempt list after this new allegation. He has avoided the list, which would mean he could not practice or play until the matter is resolved, because police in Georgia have not been able to prove he did anything wrong.

The exempt list is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances. The list includes those players who have been declared by the commissioner to be temporarily exempt from counting within the active list limit. Only the Commissioner has the authority to place a player on the list; clubs have no such authority, and no exemption, regardless of circumstances, is automatic. The commissioner also has the authority to determine in advance whether a player’s time on the exempt list will be finite or will continue until the commissioner deems the exemption should be lifted and the player returned to the active list.
