PLAYERS TO WATCH
–QB Adrian Martinez continues to develop within the Cornhuskers offense and he’ll be looking to a two-interception effort against Northwestern behind him. One of those picks came in overtime after an errant snap. “Obviously, 0-6 is not ideal, but the guys came to work today and I think it’s just what we’ve established as our M.O.,” Martinez said. “I think this coaching staff and the group of guys we have right now, we know nothing different at this point. Show up to work, do your job and do it 100 percent.”
Martinez finished last week’s outing with 251 yards passing, 37 yards on the ground and one touchdown through the air.
–DB Aaron Williams had a monster game in the box score against Northwestern, tallying a team-high 12 tackles, including 10 solo tackles. The previous season high for Williams was four tackles, which happened against both Colorado and Michigan. Williams also has two passes defended this season.
–LB Luke Gifford, posting perhaps the best effort of his senior campaign, registered four of his seven total tackles against Northwestern behind the line of scrimmage. Gifford also had two quarterback hurries against the Wildcats. The four tackles for a loss were a career-high for Gifford, part of a season-high 10 for the Cornhuskers.
–RB Devine Ozigbo, a senior, recovered from a 29-yard outing at Wisconsin by posting his second 100-yard game over his last three. Ozigbo racked up 159 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns against Northwestern. “I felt like I played a pretty good game,” Ozigbo said. “The offensive line definitely made it easy on me. They were opening things up very well. We always want to get the win, but it was good to have a confident game.”
SERIES HISTORY: Minnesota leads Nebraska 32-24-1. The Cornhuskers hold a slim edge in games played in Lincoln, leading 11-9. Minnesota won the 2017 contest 54-21.
QUOTE TO NOTE: “I think you just get hungrier. If you keep losing, then go get better. That’s how you’ve got to look at it this week. If you keep losing, do like little things here and there, let’s go tighten those little things down, let’s get better at this, get a little better at that and that would just make the whole team better and hopefully put this thing in the right direction.” — RB Devine Ozigbo on dealing with the six-game losing streak
