PLAYERS TO WATCH
–Freshman QB Artur Sitkowski posted season-high numbers for completions (29) and yardage (267) in last week’s loss to Illinois. But he also threw three interceptions to go along with one touchdown pass in the 38-17 loss. “Three interceptions. That’s not good enough,” coach Chris Ash said. “Threw some good balls, obviously. Had a lot of yards but we got three interceptions. We had some issues in the red zone with that.”
–WLB Trevor Morris, who led the Knights with 118 tackles last year, continues to put up impressive numbers. He fell short of his 13th double-digit tackling game against Indiana but was in on eight stops and had a pass breakup and quarterback hit. Against Illinois, he led the team with seven tackles.
–RB Jonathan Hilliman, who transferred to Rutgers from Boston College as a graduate senior, scored his fifth touchdown of the season — the 31st of his career — in the first quarter against Illinois.
–S Damon Hayes had another strong game, with seven tackles, including one sack and 1.5 for loss, in the latest defeated.
SERIES HISTORY: Maryland leads Rutgers 7-6. Last year, the Scarlet Knights posted a 31-24 home win over the Terps.
QUOTE TO NOTE: “This team has a lot of fight, a lot of character. It has great chemistry. It has a lot of love for each other. These players show up every single day to work and try to improve to be the best that they can be and as long as they continue to do that, we will continue to improve and get better as we go along.” — Coach Chris Ash on his 1-5 team.
