–Wide receiver Robby Anderson will not be suspended after pleading no contest to a reckless driving charge, the league said Wednesday. He was, however, fined an undisclosed amount. Anderson was arrested twice in the span of nine months, accumulating 12 charges, including four felonies. All but the reckless driving charge, a misdemeanor, were dropped. The 25-year-old undrafted free agent out of Temple threatened to sexually assault a police officer’s wife after he was clocked going 105 mph.
“I’m thankful I didn’t have to miss time for my time,” Anderson said Wednesday.
Added head coach Todd Bowles: “I don’t know if it’s a relief or not, but we’re glad it happened (this way), so we don’t have to spend time working on other things. It was good for us.”
The third-year receiver has had a lackluster start to the season, with only eight catches for 108 yards and a touchdown with two lost fumbles in the first four games.
–Strong safety Jamal Adams said Tuesday in his weekly radio spot on WFAN in New York that the Jets’ defense will hold a players-only meeting on Friday to get the team “on the same page.”
The second-year man out of LSU, who has been a vocal leader for the team this year, said the Jets hope to iron out some of the communication issues they had Sunday in Jacksonville.
Head coach Todd Bowles said Wednesday he didn’t think this was a big deal for a team to be doing this.
“Everywhere I’ve been that’s been a typical Friday,” he said.
–The spread for Sunday’s Jets-Broncos game at MetLife Stadium had plenty of variance at Las Vegas sports books as of Wednesday evening, but the Jets were favored everywhere, anywhere from minus-1 to minus-2.5.
New York will be playing its second home game after three road games in the first quarter of the season.
The Jets weren’t favored in any of their eight home games last year, but have now been favored in both their home games so far this season. They were 6-1-1 against the spread last season at home, with four outright wins, but they lost their opener to Miami, 20-12, as a three-point favorite.
BY THE NUMBERS: .404 — With Sunday’s loss, Todd Bowles now has the worst winning percentage of the nine Jets head coaches to be with the team for more than two seasons. Bruce Coslet had a .406 winning percentage (26-38) in four seasons, but Bowles surpassed his ineptitude with the Jets’ 31-12 loss in Jacksonville. Rich Kotite still has the worst head-coaching record in franchise history, going 4-28 in two seasons (1995-96).
