Virginia Tech player notes for Feb 23rd, 2019

Ryan Willis – Noteworthy
Where does Josh Jackson’s decision to compete for Maryland’s starting quarterback position instead of Virginia Tech’s leave the Hokies’ offense heading into the spring? Tech coach Justin Fuente isn’t saying so, but the answer is in the hands of Ryan Willis. “Put the ball down and go play. See how it goes,” Fuente said in an interview this month. “Those jobs are as open as everybody else’s is, and we’ll see who the best guy is.”

Willis, a Kansas transfer who sat out the 2017 season after joining the Hokies’ program, took over as the team’s starter after Jackson fractured his left leg in the team’s loss at Old Dominion in the third game of last season. Willis took over the 2-1 squad and led it to a 4-5 finish to the regular season and a Military Bowl loss to Cincinnati. Willis threw for 2,716 yards with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions while completing 58.5 percent of his passes. – Richmond.com
