Stanford player notes for Mar 2nd, 2019

Bryce Love – Noteworthy
Former Stanford star Bryce Love anticipates his NFL career starting on schedule this summer, a career some thought he should have launched a year earlier. Love’s right knee is recovering well from Dec. 18 surgery to replace the anterior cruciate ligament he tore in his final collegiate game, a 23-13 victory over Cal. “I’m far along. Everybody always says they’re ahead of the game, but in my head, I truly am,” Love said Thursday at the NFL scouting combine. “I feel great. I’m excited about where I am. “As of right now, the timetable is to be ready by mid-training camp and the season.”

Love was the 2017 Heisman Trophy runner-up after rushing for 2,118 yards and 19 touchdowns. Rather than jump to the NFL, he returned to school to earn a degree in human biology. But he struggled on the football field with an ankle injury and ran for just 739 yards. The 5-foot-10 Love didn’t publicly announce the ACL tear until January. He didn’t use his injuries as an excuse as to why last season didn’t go well and also credited his coaches and family for teaching him not to dwell on negative issues. “When I heard the (ACL) news, I was probably upset 10 minutes, probably less than that,” Love said. “After that, I was ready to get the surgery done, I was ready to get to work.” “You’re not going to hear him talk about setbacks or injuries. That’s not him,” said Stanford running backs coach Ron Gould. “He’s always going to find a way to be positive.” – Oakland Tribune
