RB James Conner sustained a right lower leg contusion in Sunday’s 33-30 setback to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday night. Conner was injured after being tackled following a reception on a screen pass with 5:08 remaining in the fourth quarter. Fellow running back Jaylen Samuels capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown catch to tie the game at 30. While Steelers coach Mike Tomlin didn’t provide much detail, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the prognosis is favorable. “My understanding is the injury is not to his ankle and not considered major at all,” Rapoport tweeted. “Coach Mike Tomlin called it a contusion and it seems like he’ll be OK, based on early impressions. How much it swells will be telling.”
Antonio Brown – Noteworthy
WR Antonio Brown was targeted 13 times Sunday and he caught 10 for 154 yards and one touchdown.
Jaylen Samuels – Noteworthy
RB Jaylen Samuels, a rookie, filled in for James Conner after he was injured late in Sunday’s loss to the Chargers. Samuels played 17 snaps and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass that tied the game at 30-30 with 4:10 left. He also had two carries for 5 yards and three catches for 20 yards, including the 10-yard score.
“I thought he played well,” QB Ben Roethlisberger said. “He got to the spots where he needed to be and then made plays with the ball in his hand.”
