Nakia Griffin-Stewart – Noteworthy
Signing day was almost three weeks ago, but there’s now one more new addition to Pitt’s football roster for this year. Nakia Griffin-Stewart, a graduate-transfer tight end from Rutgers, committed Tuesday morning to the Panthers. Griffin-Stewart is 6-feet-5, 255 pounds, and has one season of eligibility remaining. A former three-star recruit out of Tenafly, N.J., Griffin-Stewart was a part-time starter for his hometown school last year. He started four of 12 games, all in the second half of the season, but had just two receptions for 10 yards. Griffin-Stewart was more productive statistically as a redshirt sophomore with 11 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Those numbers aren’t far off from the three seasons at Rutgers for Matt Flanagan, another tight end who graduated, transferred to Pitt and stepped right in to start for the Panthers. That also could be the plan for Griffin-Stewart, who gives Pitt proven experience at a position with little of it. – Pittsburgh Post Gazette
