Tom Savage – Noteworthy – Transaction
QB Tom Savage is out at San Francisco only four days after the 49ers signed him to a free agent contract. The 49ers have waived Savage to create a roster spot for defensive back Tyvis Powell. Savage was signed by San Francisco on Tuesday, a day after the 49ers lost at Green Bay on Monday Night Football. Savage entered last season as the starter in Houston, but he was benched at halftime of the first game of the season. After then-rookie Deshaun Watson suffered a torn ACL, Savage resumed his starting role for seven games. He completed 125 of 223 pass attempts for 1,412 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions After he was not retained by the Texans, Savage signed with New Orleans in March, but he was released when the roster was trimmed to 53 players in early September. That’s when Teddy Bridgewater arrived to New Orleans via trade from the New York Jets.
