WR Josh Gordon has left the Patriots amid reports he will be suspended indefinitely for another violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy.
Gordon was traded by the Browns to NewEngland on Sept. 18 after he reportedly was late for a meeting on the day the team was laving for a road game in New Orleans. He had missed most of training camp, saying he needed to get his personal life in order, and reported on Aug. 18.
In a social media post, Gordon wrote, “I take my mental health very seriously at this point to ensure I remain able to perform at the highest level. I have recently felt like I could have a better grasp on things mentally. With that said, I will be stepping away from the football field for a bit to focus on my mental health. I would like to thank Coach (Bill) Belichick, Mr. (Robert) Kraft (club owner), as well as countless others within the Patriots organization for their continued support. I want to thank my fans for their support as well as I continue down the path to getting back to 100%.”

WR Josh Gordon announced he was stepping away from the New England Patriots to focus on his mental well-being on Thursday but shortly after the wide receiver’s announcement, the NFL announced he was suspended indefinitely for violating terms of his reinstatement under the substance abuse policy.
In issuing the suspension, the league said: “Effective today, Josh Gordon has been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.
Gordon also missed two full seasons due to suspension when he played for the Cleveland Browns and has participated in 22 games over the last five seasons.

WR Josh Gordon officially had his conditional reinstatement rescinded by the NFL Thursday and he reverts to the reserve/suspended list. A league statement said, “Effective today, Josh Gordon has been returned to the Reserve/Commissioner Suspended list indefinitely for violating the terms of his conditional reinstatement under the Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse.”
Toby Weathersby – Noteworthy – Transaction
T Toby Weathersby was signed by the Patriots to their practice squad Wednesday (Dec. 19). He had been waived from reserve/injured with an injury settlement by the Eagles Oct. 2. Weathersby, 22, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie free agent out of Louisiana State on May 11.
