*Justin Layne – Noteworthy
Justin Layne no longer has teammates to battle in practice or coaches to push him. There’s no opponent to prepare for or threat of pushups if he’s late for a workout. The former Michigan State cornerback is in Phoenix preparing for the NFL draft and embarking on a professional career comes with a new approach. “It’s all on me,” Layne said Monday night in a phone interview with MLive. “I’m not going to let myself down, I’m not going to short myself.”
Layne had one year of eligibility remaining but declared for the draft in December and skipped Michigan State’s 7-6 Redbox Bowl loss to Oregon. He received feedback that he could be a day-two pick, meaning a second- or third-round selection. “I just felt like I was at the top of my game in college,” Layne said. “I felt like I have what it takes to compete at the next level. I felt like I got better every year. My gut feeling was telling me it was time to make a change and just try something new.” – MLive.com
