Memphis player notes for Mar 3rd, 2019

*Darrell Henderson – Noteworthy
Darrell Henderson set a goal for running the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds and the former Memphis All-American did just that at the NFL scouting combine Friday in Indianapolis. Henderson ran the 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.36 seconds, the fastest time among running backs at the combine. It came on his second attempt at Lucas Oil Stadium and its tied for the eighth fastest time among running backs since 2006. Henderson finished his first 40-yard dash in 4.49 seconds, just .03 faster than teammate Tony Pollard. That mark placed sixth among official times among running backs, with Oklahoma State’s Justice Hill posting the fastest official time of 4.40 seconds. Pollard’s second 40 time was 4.60 seconds.

During interviews Thursday, Henderson spoke on being compared to another Memphis running back in DeAngelo Williams as well as convincing people his size (5-foot-8) wouldn’t be an issue in the NFL. “I have been overlooked since high school. I got told in high school I was too small,” Henderson told reporters. “So once I went to Memphis, I told myself I am going to bring it every week and every game and show them that size don’t matter. And you look at the NFL now you’ve got smaller backs being more productive than bigger backs. – Memphis Commercial Appeal
