Memphis player notes for Feb 28th, 2019

*Darrell Henderson – Noteworthy
Darrell Henderson grew up dreaming of attending the NFL combine. He pictured himself doing drills and running the 40-yard dash. After an All-American junior year at Memphis, he earned a spot in Indianapolis. Now his goal is to run the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. “For me to get that invite, it was just another stepping stone and another step for me to establish myself and show the world what I can do,” Henderson said. How will Henderson stack up against running backs from Power 5 conferences? How does his speed compare to backs like Alabama’s Josh Jacobs or Florida Atlantic’s Devin Singletary? It’s part of the mystery that Henderson expects to answer when running backs take the field for workouts March 1 at the combine.

Henderson went from 482 rushing yards as a freshman to being the nation’s second-leading rusher last season with 1,909 yards. He also led the nation with 2,328 all-purpose yards and 8.9 yards per carry. When he heard questions about his durability after the 2017 season, he added 10-15 pounds to his 5-foot-9 frame and led the nation with 15 plays of 40 or more yards from scrimmage. He was second in the country with 22 rushing touchdowns. After rushing for 210 yards against Central Florida in the AAC championship game, he ended his career as the NCAA’s all-time leader in yards per carry (8.2) with a minimum of 415 career carries. “You’ve really seen him come into his own here this year,” Memphis coach Mike Norvell said. “He spent a lot of time preparing his body. He is an absolute complete back.” – The Commercial Appeal
