Kansas City Chiefs player notes for Oct 29th, 2018

Anthony Hitchens – Noteworthy – Injury
LB Anthony Hitchens left Sunday’s 30-20 win against the Denver Broncos with a rib injury, head coach Andy Reid reported after the game.
“Anthony Hitchens got hit in the ribs with a helmet, we will see how he does as we go forward,” Reid said.
Hitchens remained on the ground after the play while tended by the team’s training staff. He walked back to the bench with assistance, but stopped twice along with way for a respite.

Cameron Erving – Noteworthy – Injury
LG Cam Erving left Sunday’s game on the team’s final drive, but coach Andy Reid did not believe the injury serious.

“He just dinged his shoulder a bit,” Reid said. “He’s all right.”

Frank Zombo – Noteworthy – Injury
LB Frank Zombo departed Sunday’s game with a left hamstring injury.

Patrick Mahomes – Noteworthy
QB Patrick Mahomes continues his torrid hot streak with his seventh straight 300-yard passing game, tied with Peyton Manning for the third most in league history. He also tossed four touchdown passes, raising his total to 26 through the first half of the season.
“For me, it’s all about getting the ball out of my hand,” Mahomes said. “That’s the biggest thing for me. As long I’m getting the ball out of my hand, there’s a good chance good things are happening.”
Mahomes can tie Andrew Luck for the second-longest streak in NFL history with another 300-yard game next week against Cleveland. Drew Brees owns the league’s longest streak at nine games, which he accomplished twice.
Broncos linebacker Shane Ray, who sat out Sunday’s game with wrist and ankle injuries, said Mahomes is the real deal.
“Can’t take anything away from the kid,” Ray said. “He’s incredible with what he does. I know Chiefs fans love him, they got to. You’ve seen what he’s done every time we play him.”
Mahomes reached the 300-yard mark with just a bit of drama. He completed a 10-yard pass to fullback Anthony Sherman on his final throw of the day, getting him to 303 yards. But a flag for offensive holding on left guard Cam Erving appeared to wipe out the gain.
But after initially accepting the penalty, Broncos head coach Vance Joseph declined the penalty. That brought up fourth down for the Chiefs, but let the 10-yard pass stand and extended the streak for Mahomes.

Sammy Watkins – Noteworthy
WR Sammy Watkins’ addition to the Chiefs offense seemed just the tonic for a group that struggled in the red zone last season, and in Sunday’s 30-20 win against the Denver Broncos, Watkins got to show off those skills, combining with quarterback Patrick Mahomes for two key red-zone scores.
“Everything is a little bit quicker (in the red zone),” Watkins said after the game. “Once you’re playing fast and Pat throwing the ball the way he’s been throwing, you have no choice but to catch the ball and score.”
Watkins led the Chiefs with eight catches for 107 yards against the Broncos. But the two red-zone touchdowns from 13 yards and 10 yards out proved essential to the victory.
“It feels great, not just to score two times but to get the win,” Watkins said. “To do it at a high level and just go out there and play my style of game, running around having fun, throw some good blocks and have everyone catch a lot of balls.”
Tight end Travis Kelce, who caught six passes for 79 yards and touchdown against the Broncos, said he enjoyed seeing Watkins have a breakout day Sunday.
“It’s always good to see Sammy go off,” Kelce said. “He brings such a confidence in everything he does, you are happy for the guy because of the type of person he is and how hard he works during the week.”

Travis Kelce – Noteworthy
TE Travis Kelce caught six passes for 79 yards and touchdown against the Broncos.

Tyreek Hill – Noteworthy – Injury
WR Tyreek Hill left Sunday’s game with a strained groin, but he exited the locker room wearing an inflatable sumo wrestling costume for Halloween showing no ill effects from the injury.
