Lenzy Pipkins – Noteworthy – Transaction
CB Lenzy Pipkins was signed by the Colts to the practice squad Tuesday (Sept. 25). He had been waived by the Colts Saturday. Pipkins, 6-0, 196 pounds, has spent time on the Colts’ active roster and practice squad this season. He was originally acquired by the team via trade with the Green Bay Packers on August 26, 2018 before being waived during the cut to 53 on September 1. As a rookie in 2017, Pipkins played in 12 games (one start) for the Packers and registered 17 tackles (13 solo), 1.0 tackle for loss, one pass defensed and one special teams stop. He was originally signed by Green Bay as an undrafted free agent on May 5, 2017.
Margus Hunt – Noteworthy
DE Margus Hunt is making the most of being a full-time starter for the first time in his six-year career. Hunt leads the NFL with eight tackles for loss. Three of those are sacks, which is worth noting when considering Hunt entered the season with just 2 1/2 career sacks. “If you have more than 50 to 60 plays a game, you tend to have a little bit more success with the snaps you get,” Hunt said. “I’m just trying to take advantage of every single opportunity out there.”
Rees Odhiambo – Noteworthy – Transaction
T Rees Odhiambo was signed by the Colts to the practice squad Tuesday (Sept. 25). He had been waived by the Seahawks Sept. 2. Odhiambo, 6-4, 315 pounds, played in 15 career games (seven starts) in his time with the Seattle Seahawks (2016-17). He also appeared in one postseason contest. He was originally selected by Seattle in the third round (97th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft. Collegiately, Odhiambo started 25-of-32 career games at Boise State.
Andrew Luck – Noteworthy
QB Andrew Luck has completed passes to at least eight different targets in all three games. Nine different targets have multiple catches, led by T.Y. Hilton’s 17 for 179 yards. Hilton and tight end Eric Ebron each have two TDs. Wide receiver Ryan Grant, an offseason free-agent addition, caught his first TD pass on Sunday.
Anthony Castonzo – Noteworthy – Injury
LT Anthony Castonzo doesn’t appear ready to make his season debut. Castonzo, who again didn’t practice on Wednesday due to a lingering hamstring injury, said he’s no longer putting a timetable on his return. Twice before he pronounced himself ready to play only to experience a setback. Before this season, the former first-round pick had missed just seven starts in seven seasons. He’s started all 105 NFL games in which he’s appeared.
Darius Leonard – Noteworthy
LB Darius Leonard leads the league with 41 tackles and 30 solos. Leonard is also second to Hunt in the NFL with six tackles for loss. “He’s a very intelligent player,” defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus said of the second-round pick. “He has worked hard at his alignment, key, technique and then you sprinkle that with talent and playing hard and that’s what you get.”
Joe Haeg – Noteworthy – Injury
RT Joe Haeg will miss at least two weeks with an ankle injury.
Jordan Wilkins – Noteworthy
RB Jordan Wilkins leads the Colts with 120 yards rushing on 40 carries. In theory it’s supposed to be a backfield by committee, but the release of Christine Michael this week coupled with starter Marlon Mack dealing with injuries that sidelined him last Sunday means the rookie Wilkins might only have rookie Nyheim Hines to spell him this week.
