Adam Vinatieri – Noteworthy
PK Adam Vinatieri’s third field goal of the afternoon in the Indianapolis Colts’ game at the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday allowed him to tie Morten Andersen for the most career field goals in NFL history. Vinatieri’s 565th field goal of his career matches Andersen, a Hall of Famer. It took Andersen 709 tries to get that many while Vinatieri did it in 670 career kicks. Vinatieri got his chance to tie Andersen after Colts defensive lineman Margus Hunt forced and recovered a Carson Wentz fumble inside the 20-yard-line.The record-tying kick, a 28-yarder, came with 14:20 left in the fourth quarter, which gave the Colts a 16-13 lead.Vinatieri’s previous kick came after a Wentz interception. With one more made field goal, Vinatieri will break the all-time NFL record, which is just the first of two career marks he is expected to own by the end of the season. Vinatieri entered today’s game needing 43 points to tie Andersen (2,544) for the most points scored in NFL history. He could break that record by midseason.The 45-year-old Vinatieri, who is in his 23rd season in the NFL, was much discussed during the week after video showed him making a 70-yard field goal in practice.
