Indianapolis Colts player notes for Oct 9th, 2018

*Al-Quadin Muhammad – Noteworthy – Transaction
DE Al-Quadin Muhammad was signed by the Colts to their practice squad Monday (Oct. 8). He had been waived by the Colts Thursday. Muhammad, 6-4, 250 pounds, was originally claimed by the Colts off waivers (from New Orleans) on September 2, 2018. He played in the first four games (two starts) this season for Indianapolis and tallied eight tackles (six solo) and 1.0 tackle for loss. As a rookie in 2017, Muhammad played in four games and made one tackle for the Saints. He was originally selected by New Orleans in the sixth round (196th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Andrew Luck – Noteworthy
QB Andrew Luck has completed 163 of 245 passes, the most in a player’s first five games since 1950. He’s on pace for 784 pass attempts, which would shatter the league mark of 727 set by Detroit’s Matthew Stafford in in 2012. He’s also on pace for 521 completions, which would shatter Drew Brees’ league record of 471 in 2016. “It’s killing me to have to throw this much,” coach Frank Reich said. “I know you can’t sustain this.”

Braden Smith – Noteworthy
T Braden Smith, a rookie second-round pick who played guard at Auburn, became the team’s fifth different starting tackle when he made his first NFL start at right tackle. “Braden played well,” coach Frank Reich said. “Tough situation, being thrown out there at the last minute. He did a really nice job. I think he exceeded expectations at that spot.”

Eric Ebron – Noteworthy
TE Eric Ebron, who signed as a free agent in the offseason, had a career-high 105 yards receiving and two TDs at New England. He has a team-high five touchdowns.

Malik Hooker – Noteworthy
S Malik Hooker, a 2017 first-round selection, led the Colts with 12 tackles against the Patriots.

Robert Turbin – Noteworthy
RB Robert Turbin returned from a four-game suspension but was hardly used against the Patriots. The backup didn’t have a rushing carry and was unable to catch the one pass with which he was targeted. Because starting RB Marlon Mack has missed the past three games with a hamstring injury, the Colts have been relying upon rookie rushers Jordan Wilkins and Nyheim Hines. They combined for 84 yards rushing on 21 carries. Also counted on in the passing game, they combined for nine receptions for 54 yards.

T.Y. Hilton – Noteworthy – Injury
WR T.Y. Hilton, who didn’t participate in walk-throughs last week and sat out Thursday with chest and hamstring injuries, didn’t take part in Monday’s light workout. His status is uncertain for Sunday.

Tray Matthews – Noteworthy – Transaction
S Tray Matthews was signed by the Colts to their practice squad Monday (Oct. 8). He had been waived from reserve/injured with an injury settlement by the Vikings Sept. 1. Matthews, 6-1, 213 pounds, participated in the Minnesota Vikings’ 2018 offseason program and training camp. He was originally signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2018.
