Indiana player notes for Mar 8th, 2019

Peyton Ramsey – Noteworthy
Peyton Ramsey has been here before. Twice, in fact. And being the old man in an otherwise young quarterback room, he will probably have known the questions were coming. Whether he did or not, IU’s redshirt junior signal caller played all the right notes last week, when asked about having to fight for his job – again – behind center in Bloomington. “Similar to the past,” he said, when asked about handling another potential quarterback competition. “Continuing to work every single day, not comparing myself to anybody else. I think the biggest thing for me this year is vocal leadership and just accepting that role and pushing guys to get better. Pushing those young guys to get better every single day.”

Four sentences, straightforward and tinged with the clichés one would expect of a player now approaching his fourth college season. Three of those have found Ramsey battling for the No. 1 QB job. He split it with Richard Lagow in 2017, starting the middle portion of IU’s schedule before being sidelined with an injury. He won it outright last season, starting all 12 games and finishing with 2,875 yards, 19 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He was occasionally deputized by Michael Penix, before Penix tore his ACL midyear against Penn State. – Indianapolis Star/News
