Georgia player notes for Mar 4th, 2019

Jake Fromm – Noteworthy
When Georgia opens spring practice on March 19, Jake Fromm this time won’t be having to try to chase down a heralded former five-star quarterback in front of him on the depth chart or fend off an uber-talented five-star newcomer behind him. No, this is clearly the junior’s offense to lead without having to prove himself or look over his shoulder. Sure, there’s plenty of room for growth in his game, but after going 23-5 in two seasons as the starter, with a pair of trips to the SEC championship game and nearly winning the national title as a true freshman he’s survived those who tried to unseat him.

“I think it’s just an opportunity for me to go in, lead and try to take this team to a whole another level and be in a different situation,” Fromm said. Jacob Eason returned home to Washington after the 2017 season where he will have a chance to earn the job with the Huskies this season. Justin Fields bolted to Ohio State in January where he’s expected to start for the Buckeyes. “It’s not like a, hey, high-five-for-me moment,” Fromm said before the Sugar Bowl after Fields already put his name in the transfer portal. “I want the best for both of those guys. I wish both those guys extreme success in their careers and they go out and play a lot of football.” – Online Athens

Latavious Brini – Noteworthy
Georgia sophomore defensive back Latavious Brini was arrested Thursday night on a simple battery charge, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail log. Brini was booked at 8:18 p.m. and released on $1,850 bond at 10:19 p.m the same day. Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart issued a statement on Brini’s arrest: “This type of behavior is extremely disappointing and not representative of the standards for our football student-athletes. His discipline will be handled internally and hopefully good lessons will be learned that will lead to better choices moving forward.” Brini, from Hialeah, Fla., played in five games this past season after redshirting his first season. Brini signed with Georgia as a member of the 2017 class, and is listed at 6-foot-2, 208 pounds. Brini was arrested in December 2017 on a felony charge of forgery. But those charges were eventually dropped. As for his football future, Brini was passed on the depth chart by Otis Reese last season at safety, in addition to sitting behind Richard LeCounte and J.R. Reed. – WSB Radio
