Darius Slay – Noteworthy – Injury
CB Darius Slay did not practice Wednesday and could miss Sunday’s game with a concussion. Slay was injured in the third quarter of last week’s loss to the 49ers, on a helmet-to-helmet collision with fullback Kyle Juszczyk. The Lions re-signed CB DeShawn Shead, who was one of the last cuts coming out of training camp, to add depth in the secondary.
DeShawn Shead – Noteworthy – Transaction
CB DeShawn Shead signed a contract with the Detroit Lions, the team announced Wednesday. Shead initially signed with the Lions in free agency in March, but a strained quadriceps injury sidelined him for two preseason games. He was released by the club earlier this month. The 30-year-old Shead’s return is expected to provide depth as star cornerback Darius Slay deals with a concussion. Slay’s availability is in question as the Lions (0-2) host the New England Patriots (1-1) on Sunday (8:20 p.m.).
Matthew Stafford – Noteworthy
QB Matthew Stafford lost a fumble against the 49ers, giving him five turnovers in two games this year. Stafford didn’t commit his fifth turnover until Week 6 of the NFL season last year.
