Cleveland Browns player notes for Nov 7th, 2018


Arrion Springs – Noteworthy – Transaction
CB Arrion Springs was signed by the Browns to their practice squad Wednesday (Nov. 7). Springs (5-11, 208), a rookie out of Oregon, was originally signed by the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in May. He spent four weeks on the Browns’ practice squad earlier this season and was released Oct. 30. He has also spent time on the Chiefs’ and New Orleans Saints’ practice squads this year. Springs is a product of San Antonio, Texas.

Christian Kirksey – Noteworthy – Injury – Transaction
LB Christian Kirksey and cornerback E.J. Gaines were placed on injured reserve Wednesday, the team announced. Kirksey injured his hamstring in the second half of Sunday’s loss against the Kansas City Chiefs. The 26-year-old Kirksey registered 43 tackles and two interceptions in seven appearances this season. A team captain, the 6-foot-2, 235-pound Kirksey missed time earlier in the campaign with shoulder and ankle injuries. Kirksey recorded 138 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 16 games last season.

Denzel Ward – Noteworthy – Injury
CB Denzel Ward (hip) did not practice Wednesday. He was injured playing the Chiefs last Sunday.

E.J. Gaines – Noteworthy – Injury – Transaction
CB E.J. Gaines was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, the team announced. Gaines suffered his second concussion in less than a month on Sunday on a first-quarter touchdown by Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt. He had just returned from missing the previous two games with a concussion that he sustained in practice. The 26-year-old Gaines also missed the season-opening tie against the Pittsburgh Steelers with a knee injury.

Jamie Collins – Noteworthy – Injury
LB Jamie Collins (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Interim head coach Gregg Williams is confident he will play against the Falcons.

JC Tretter – Noteworthy – Injury
C JC Tretter (ankle) did not practice Wednesday. Tretter has been held out from midweek practices the last four weeks but he starts every Sunday.

Jermaine Whitehead – Important – Transaction
S Jermaine Whitehead was claimed on waivers by the Browns from the Packers Wednesday (Nov. 7). Whitehead is 5-11, 195 pounds and in his third NFL season out of Auburn. Originally signed by San Francisco as an undrafted free agent in 2015, Whitehead has appeared in 19 games with the Packers from 2016-18. He has totaled 17 tackles, two passes defensed and one sack. He appeared in seven games with two starts this season.

Juston Burris – Noteworthy – Transaction
CB Juston Burris was signed by the Browns to their practice squad Wednesday (Nov. 7) from the Jets practice squad. Officially in his third year, Burris (6-0, 212) was a 2016 fourth-round selection by the Jets and was added to the club’s practice squad after being waived on Oct. 27. Appearing in 34 career games with two starts, Burris registered 28 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions since 2016. This season, he saw game action in four contests and was inactive for three.
