Atlanta Falcons player notes for Sep 27th, 2018


Bruce Carter – Noteworthy – Transaction
LB Bruce Carter was signed by the Falcons Tuesday (Sept. 25). He became an unrestricted free agent with the Jets in March and hasn’t been with a team since then. Carter was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 2011 draft. He spent four seasons in Dallas, tallying 306 total tackles, five sacks, five interceptions, and 20 passes defensed. In 2015, he was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and spent one season with the team. During his time there, he played in 14 games, starting in three of those games and recorded 39 total tackles and two sacks. Carter was with the Jets for the last two seasons, where he played in 27 games and tallied 11 total tackles.

Bruce Carter – Noteworthy – Transaction
LB Bruce Carter was added to the active roster. He was the second-round pick of Dallas in 2011 and has played with the Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets during his seven-year career.

Derrick Shelby – Noteworthy – Injury
DE Derrick Shelby sustained a groin injury early in the game against the Carolina Panthers. He missed the game versus the New Orleans Saints and is day-to-day.

Devonta Freeman – Noteworthy – Injury
RB Devonta Freeman could miss his third straight game with a right knee contusion. He was injured in the first quarter of the season opener. Freeman is uncertain to play in Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Ricardo Allen – Noteworthy – Injury – Transaction
S Ricardo Allen was placed on the injured reserve with an Achilles injury and is out for the season. His recovery time is estimated at six months. He joins OL Andy Levitre (triceps), S Keanu Neal (knee) and LB Deion Jones (foot) on injured reserve — with only Jones expected back this season.

Ricardo Allen – Important – Injury – Transaction
S Ricardo Allen was placed on reserve/injured (torn Achilles) by the Falcons Tuesday (Sept. 25). He is eligible to be designated for return and begin practicing after missing at least six weeks and can play after eight weeks. In four seasons with the Falcons, Allen has played in 49 games with 48 starts while totaling 229 tackles, one sack, seven interceptions, one forced fumble and 13 passes defensed. This season he recorded 17 total tackles, one interception, and three passes defensed before going down with an Achilles injury.

Richie Brown – Noteworthy – Transaction
LB Richie Brown was signed by the Falcons to the practice squad Tuesday (Sept. 25). He had been waived by the Panthers Sept. 1. Brown was signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers following the 2017 draft. Last season, he spent time as a member of the Carolina Panthers practice squad.

Sharrod Neasman – Noteworthy – Transaction
S Sharrod Neasman was signed by the Falcons Tuesday (Sept. 25). He had been waived from reserve/injured with an injury settlement by the Saints Sept. 3. Neasman originally joined the Falcons as a college free agent following the 2016 draft out of Florida Atlantic. Neasman spent the first six weeks of his rookie season as a member of the Falcons practice squad before being called up to the active roster. He played in 14 games over two seasons with the Falcons.

Sharrod Neasman – Noteworthy – Transaction
S Sharrod Neasman has been added to the active roster. He played 11 games with the Falcons in 2017 as Keanu Neal’s backup. He will likely be included into the secondary rotation this week.

Takkarist McKinley – Noteworthy – Injury
DE Takkarist McKinley’s status is uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. He suffered a groin injury in the final minutes of the Carolina Panthers’ game and missed the contest against the New Orleans Saints. He is day-to-day. Coach Dan Quinn said McKinley was in better shape to return than the others who have been sidelined.
