Atlanta Falcons player notes for Oct 17th, 2018

Devonta Freeman – Hot News – Injury – Transaction
RB back Devonta Freeman was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with foot and groin injuries, the team announced Tuesday. The move will keep Freeman out at least the next eight weeks, but the Falcons hope to have him back before the end of the season. “Following the game against Pittsburgh (Oct. 7), where Devonta injured his foot, we thought he was just having general soreness in his groin area,” said Falcons coach Dan Quinn in a statement on the team’s website. “As the week went on it continued so we decided to have him get some tests. It has been determined that he will need a procedure that will result in us placing him on injured reserve. We are hopeful he will be able to return this season, but we will have a better feel for that in the coming weeks.”

Giorgio Tavecchio – Important – Transaction
K Giorgio Tavecchio was signed by the Falcons Tuesday (Oct. 16). He had been waived by the Raiders Aug. 4 and by the Falcons Sept. 1. Falcons K Matt Bryant suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay, and he appears unlikely to be able to kick Monday night against the Giants.

Tavecchio started his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers in 2012 after spending four years at the University of California. The kicker from Milan, Italy spent time with the Green Bay Packers, Detroit Lions and the Oakland Raiders before being signed to the Raiders active roster in 2017 after their longtime kicker Sebastian Janikowski was placed on injured reserve.

Last season with the Raiders, Tavecchio played in all 16 games and converted on 16 of his 21 field-goal attempts, including making three-of-four field goal attempts from 50 or more yards.
