Arizona Cardinals player notes for Oct 3rd, 2018

Andre Smith – Noteworthy – Injury
RT Andre Smith (elbow) is close to 100 percent and although he was limited in practice on Wednesday, head coach Steve Wilks said Smith could be in the starting lineup Sunday against the 49ers after not playing the past three weeks. John Wetzel has made the start there in Smith’s absence, but that could change this week. “If Andre is healthy, he’ll slide back in, yes,” Wilks said.

Bene’ Benwikere – Noteworthy – Injury
CB Bene’ Benwikere (neck), DT Corey Peters (elbow) and WR Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday. According to coach Steve Wilks, the three are day-to-day but he fully expects them to be available Sunday against the 49ers.

Corey Peters – Noteworthy – Injury
DT Corey Peters (elbow), WR Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) and CB Bene’ Benwikere (neck) did not practice Wednesday. According to coach Steve Wilks, the three are day-to-day but he fully expects them to be available Sunday against the 49ers.

Darian Thompson – Noteworthy – Transaction
S Darian Thompson was signed by the Cardinals to their practice squad Tuesday (Oct. 2). He had been waived from reserve/injured with an injury settlement by the Giants Sept. 7. Thompson (6-2, 211) played in 18 games (17 starts) the past two seasons with the New York Giants and collected 82 tackles (67 solo), six passes defensed and one interception. Last season, he started all 16 games at safety for the Giants and finished third on the team with 75 tackles. The 25-year old Thompson entered the league with New York as a third-round selection (71st overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft out of Boise State.

Josh Bynes – Noteworthy
LB Josh Bynes has emerged as the Cardinals’ most reliable player in the middle of their defense. He’s getting his first extended chance at being a regular starter and has gone from journeyman to potential start in the making. “When you look at Josh, the first thing that comes out is that he’s just smart,” head coach Steve Wilks said. “Josh gets everybody aligned and that’s important within our defense. Seeing certain adjustments and checks and being able to get either the front or the secondary in the right position, that’s what he brings and that’s the reason why he’s out there.”

Larry Fitzgerald – Noteworthy – Injury
WR Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring), DT Corey Peters (elbow) and CB Bene’ Benwikere (neck) did not practice Wednesday. According to coach Steve Wilks, the three are day-to-day but he fully expects them to be available Sunday against the 49ers.

Markus Golden – Noteworthy – Injury
DE Markus Golden didn’t practice on Wednesday, but head coach Steve Wilks said it was more of just a rest day for Golden as he continues to fully work his way back from a torn ACL. “You still don’t want to put a lot on him,” Wilks said. “Being able to give him that day today, I think is good. He’ll be ready to go tomorrow.”
