Alabama player notes for Mar 8th, 2019

Christian Miller – Noteworthy
Just two months after suffering a Grade 2 hamstring strain in the College Football Playoff national semifinal against Oklahoma, the former Alabama outside linebacker wanted to showcase his natural athleticism that made him one of the Crimson Tide’s top pass rushers last season. “(The Combine) is something you grow up looking forward to. It’s just an honor being selected to attend it. You’re with the best of the best in the country, and it’s a great opportunity to showcase your skills,” Miller said on Wednesday. “Just being able to be there and show my physical tools, like my height, weight, arm length, I think that was impressive, and them seeing me move was good. That was something that was very beneficial for me.”

Added Miller’s father, former New York Giants outside linebacker Corey Miller: “I thought it was good, but obviously we know it’s going to be better come Pro Day.” Given the tender nature of his hamstring, Miller held off on running the 40-yard dash until his pro day, but did some position-specific drills, with the intention of doing a lot more on March 19. “I think it’ll be big for me, because they’ll be able to see me in different (drills),” Miller said. “At Pro Day, they’ll be able to see me do linebacker drills, pass-rushing drills, if they want to work me at defensive end, they can. … I think it’s going to be even more beneficial because they can work me at any position they see me fit.” – Dothan Eagle

Henry Ruggs III – Noteworthy
If they didn’t know already, NFL teams are now well aware that Henry Ruggs is really, really fast. Alabama had its junior pro day Wednesday and I’ve heard that NFL scouts timed Ruggs, who had 11 touchdown catches for the Tide last season, in the 4.25 range in the 40-yard dash. To put that into perspective, the NFL scouting combine record for the 40-yard dash is 4.22 and the fastest time posted at this year’s combine was 4.30. There were other players that ran fast, too. Biletnikoff Award winner Jerry Jeudy, safety Jared Mayden and a couple others were timed in the 4.4s in the 40. – AL.com
