GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Iowa State doesn’t plan to change its offense even with David Montgomery on the sidelines, and it’s not even clear how Matt Campbell would do that anyway given the importance of the run in setting up Brock Purdy’s deadly play-action passes. Look for Campbell to keep the playing time breakdown close to the vest before kickoff to give the Cyclones any edge they can get. If the offense can keep flowing even without Montgomery for a half, Iowa State’s in great shape. If not, Iowa State likely will find itself playing from behind in the second half.

DRAFT SLANT

–RB David Montgomery will only have 30 minutes to make an impression against Texas thanks to his suspension for throwing a punch against Baylor. That said, the suspension likely won’t count against him for NFL scouts, both because he was reacting to a slap thrown at him and because the rest of his Iowa State career makes this a clear outlier.

ROSTER REPORT:

–DB Datrone Young missed the Baylor game with a shoulder injury. His status for the Texas game is uncertain.

–DBs Dallas Taylor-Cortez and Jaeveyon Morton, along with wide receiver Joseph Scales, have been suspended for the second time this season for an undisclosed violation of team rules. It’s unclear when or if they will be able to return.

–DE Eyioma Uwazurike is still on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. There’s no timetable for his return.
