Strategy And Personnel

GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: RB Alex Barnes needs to wear down the Kansas defense as he comes off a 102-yard rushing performance in the 14-13 loss at TCU on Nov. 3. Barnes is capable, though the Kansas defense is the best in the Big 12 at forcing turnovers. Kansas State linebackers must wrap up too while facing Kansas RB Pooka Williams, an electric freshman who is both elusive and physical, and a threat to catch passes out of the backfield.

DRAFT SLANT

–DE Wyatt Hubert had two tackles for loss and was active along the defensive front for the Wildcats in their loss at TCU. He was in on four solo tackles and one quarterback pressure. The redshirt freshman is considered one of the more promising players in the Kansas State system, while going through a learning curve after he was elevated into a starter. He will be someone for NFL scouts to follow as the 6-foot-4 Hubert continues to mature.

ROSTER REPORT

–QB Skylar Thompson was placed in concussion protocol and did not return from an early hit in the loss at TCU. QB Alex Delton played the remainder of the game after previously losing playing time and splitting reps with Thompson early in the season.

–RB Dalvin Warmack appeared to twist an ankle after he entered as a sub against TCU and did not return as RB Alex Barnes and QB Alex Delton logged 23 rushes apiece.

–LB Da’Quan Patton suffered a hand injury in the second half. Patton already plays with a wrap to protect his left hand.

–CB Duke Shelley missed his second straight game with an injury to his right leg. Shelley ranks third among Big 12 defenders with 12 pass breakups, including three interceptions.
