KEY MATCHUP: Duke’s defensive front vs. Georgia Tech’s rushing attack

The Blue Devils have fared well at times against the triple-option, but it’s always an adjustment. It often matters how quickly the Blue Devils can settle in on defense and become in tune to slowing down the Yellow Jackets. The season opener against Army probably helped in the preparation, but it’s still up to DE Victor Dimukeje, DE Drew Jordan and DT Derrick Tangelo — all sophomores — showing they’re up to the task. The Yellow Jackets, who count on a large chunk of rushing offense from quarterbacks, are coming off a 66-point outing at Louisville and they’re clicking again on the ground.

DRAFT SLANT

–LB Joe Giles-Harris is one most acclaimed defenders in recent Duke history. His ability to get to ball carriers is impressive and he’ll be looking to build on a season in which he gained national recognition in 2017. “We know what he can do,” coach David Cutcliffe said. “He can be real physical.” Giles-Harris holds a career average of 8.9 tackles per game.

ROSTER REPORT

–RB Marvin Hubbard underwent surgery for a ruptured left Achilles tendon a day after the Virginia Tech game. The redshirt freshman is out for the season after gaining 118 yards on 30 rushes this year.

–C Zach Harmon has returned to more regular practice routine after missing the past three games with an injury.

–RB Brittain Brown gained 116 rushing yards last year against Georgia Tech on 14 carries, which matches his career-high total for attempts. He also made three receptions in that game, which is his second-most in a game so he figures to be a big part of the game plan for this week’s matchup.
