Strategy And Personnel

GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: The Texas defense versus Baylor’s high-powered offense. Baylor has outgained its opponents offensively in five of six games in 2018 and is averaging 499.5 yards of offense per game, good enough for 12th among Power 5 schools in total offense and eighth among P5 in passing (325.5 yards per game). After facing a deliberate offense two weeks ago at Kansas State and a dual-powered, attacking juggernaut last Saturday when beating Oklahoma, this week’s game might be the defense’s toughest challenge to date.

DRAFT SLANT

–WR Collin Johnson has the size (6-foot-6, 215 pounds), athleticism and speed that the NFL loves, but he needs to be more aggressive. Texas coach Tom Herman has ordered his quarterbacks to go to the go-route to Johnson anytime and every time he draws single coverage, and that strategy worked for a 22-yard TD in the loss to Maryland. He now has 31 catches for 431 yards and four TDs combined in the first six games.

ROSTER REPORT:

–QB Sam Ehlinger had his sixth-straight 200-yard game to open the season, joining Colt McCoy (8, 2007), Major Applewhite (11, 1999), and Peter Gardere (7, 1992) as the only other QBs to do that in school history. Ehlinger has passed for at least 200 yards in all 12 career starts. It was his second career 300-yard game. His 12th career 200-yard game ties him with Vince Young for seventh-most in school history.

–WR Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught a career-high nine passes for a career-high 133 yards and a touchdown in the OU game. He now has 981 career receiving yards. It was Humphrey’s third career 100-yard game. He also threw his first career touchdown pass on the Longhorns’ opening drive, connecting with WR Collin Johnson.

–DL Breckyn Hager had two tackles, including 1/2 tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery as he wore No. 60 in honor of Longhorn Legend Tommy Nobis.
