GAME BREAKDOWN

KEY MATCHUP: Texas QB Sam Ehlinger vs. Baylor front seven. Dual-threat quarterbacks Quentin Harris of Duke and Kyler Murray of Oklahoma both lit up Baylor’s defense. Even Kansas State’s Skylar Thompson made big plays with his legs and arm in the Bears’ win on Saturday. Ehlinger is coming off a stellar performance as he led Texas to a win over Oklahoma in the Red River shootout. If he gets into the secondary like other dual-threat QBs have against Baylor, he’s likely to add to the Bears’ big-play problems. Baylor has surrendered 12 TD plays of 24 yards or longer in the last two games.

DRAFT SLANT

–WR Denzel Mims, who posted a season-high for catches against Oklahoma, had another excellent game in the win over Kansas State. He caught eight balls for 90 yards, including a circus catch in the corner of the end zone that pulled Baylor even with the Wildcats in the fourth quarter.

ROSTER REPORT:

–RB John Lovett left the Oklahoma game with a head injury and is in the concussion protocol. Coach Matt Rhule said Monday that Lovett will be back in action this week versus Texas.

–CB Grayland Arnold missed the Kansas State game with an ankle injury. Coach Matt Rhule said he is still more than a week away from returning to the field.

–S Verkedric Vaughns missed the Kansas State with an ankle injury. Coach Matt Rhule said he could have played and was suited up on an as-needed basis against Kansas State. The Baylor coach said he expects Vaughns back this week.

–LG Xavier Newman suffered a high ankle sprain in the win over Kansas. He missed the Oklahoma and Kansas State games. He’s questionable this week against Texas.

–WR Tony Nicholson asked for and was granted his release from the program last week. Nicholson didn’t have a catch through three games and was limited to three punt returns for 34 yards.

–LT Josh Malin was helped off the field versus Abilene Christian with a knee injury. Malin has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL and will miss at least four weeks. Rhule said he hopes to get Malin back in practice in the next couple of weeks.
