GAME BREAKDOWN
KEY MATCHUP: Texas’ front seven against Oklahoma’s running game. Even without Rodney Anderson, the Sooners’ ground game has been a success, with Trey Sermon taking over as the No. 1 back, quarterback Kyler Murray playing a big part in the running game and redshirt freshman Kennedy Brooks emerging after a big game against Baylor. The Longhorns haven’t allowed any team to rush for 200 or more yards since the season opener a year ago and in mid-September USC had minus-5 yards rushing against Texas.
DRAFT SLANT
–QB Kyler Murray’s hot start to the season has kicked up questions over whether or not he could be an attractive option for NFL teams, even at 5-foot-10, and having already signed a multi-million dollar baseball contract. Sooners co-offensive coordinator Cale Gundy said Monday that Murray was “definitely” an NFL-caliber player.
ROSTER REPORT:
–OG Ben Powers missed the win over Baylor with an injury. It’s unknown when he will return.
–DE Kenneth Mann was also held out against the Bears. Riley said neither Mann nor Powers were close to being available in that game.
–DTs Marquise Overton (appendectomy) and Tyreece Lott (unspecified injury) each returned against Baylor, helping the Sooners’ depth up front.
–RB Marcelias Sutton has missed two consecutive games since suffering an ankle injury against Iowa State on Sept. 15.
