GAME BREAKDOWN
KEY MATCHUP: Duke linebackers vs. Wake Forest RB Cade Carney. The Blue Devils are banged up again in the middle of the defense so controlling the Wake Forest rushing attack will be critical. LB Joe Giles-Harris has missed two games and LB Ben Humphreys exited again last week at Clemson. Carney, who didn’t play last year against the Blue Devils, because of an injury, had a breakout game early in his freshman season when he rushed for three touchdowns as part of a 108-yard effort on the ground in a game at Duke. He figures to be the primary ball carrier for Wake Forest this week.
DRAFT SLANT
–LB Joe Giles-Harris is one most acclaimed defenders in recent Duke history. His ability to get to ball carriers is impressive and he’ll be looking to build on a season in which he gained national recognition in 2017. “We know what he can do,” coach David Cutcliffe said. “He can be real physical.” Nine games into the 2018 regular season, Giles-Harris holds a career average of 9.2 tackles per game. But he missed the team’s 10th and 11th games with an injury, though he continues to lead the 2018 team with 80 tackles.
ROSTER REPORT
–RB Brittain Brown was back for only his second game during a six-game stretch when he played at Clemson. He logged seven carries for 22 yards.
–TE Jake Marwede, a redshirt freshman, underwent surgery Monday for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He suffered the injury at No. 2 Clemson. He appeared in eight games, mostly on special teams.
–LB Brandon Hill should be available after he was ejected on a targeting ruling while on punt coverage in the first half Saturday night at Clemson.
