Rodney Hudson and the Oakland Raiders agreed on Monday to a five-year deal that could be worth as much as $44.5 million.
Hudson, a second-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2011, started all 16 games last season for the AFC West rival.
Oakland is likely to move on from free agent Stefen Wisniewski.
The Raiders are flush with salary cap space and planning to be major players in free agency. But two of their top-tier targets — wide receiver Randall Cobb and defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh — are locked up well before the start of unrestricted free agency. Cobb agreed to a four-year, $40 million contract with the Green Bay Packers, keeping the talented receiver together with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
Suh has an agreement in place with the Miami Dolphins that will pay him $114 million.
The Raiders still have eyes for playmakers such as Denver Broncos tight end Julius Thomas, but to date remain unable to nail down a top-flight receiving weapon for quarterback Derek Carr.
