The Los Angeles Rams will release veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson after failing to find a suitable trade partner by Tuesday’s deadline.

Jackson announced his departure from the team on social media after ESPN and NFL Network reported it was imminent.

“I am very grateful for the time that I spent playing for the LA Rams,” he wrote. “Although this isn’t the outcome that we wanted, I am extremely appreciative for the opportunity & support given to to me by the Rams Coaches & all of the Fans. I understand that everything happens for a reason & I look forward to beginning the next chapter of my NFL career. Thank you.”

Last week, reports said the Rams and Jackson agreed to search for a trade partner. Jackson did not play in Los Angeles’ Week 8 victory over the Houston Texans.

The 34-year-old recorded eight catches for 221 yards and a touchdown over seven games with the Rams. He has 620 catches for 10,877 yards and 57 touchdowns in 167 games (154 starts) with the Philadelphia Eagles (2008-13, 2019-20), Washington (2014-16), Tampa Bay (2017-18) and Los Angeles.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection led the NFL in yards per catch in 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018.

A Los Angeles-area native, Jackson signed a one-year, $4.5 million deal with the Rams in March. Cooper Kupp, Robert Woods and Van Jefferson have been the favorite targets this season for quarterback Matthew Stafford.
