Miami Heat guard Dwyane Wade is encouraged with his recovery from offseason knee surgery and hopes to be able to play in a few exhibiton games.

The early stages of training camp have gone well for Wade, ESPN.com reported. Wade had the procedure July 9 on the left knee that bothered him throughout the Heat’s run to the NBA title

“I will try a preseason game,” Wade said Tuesday. “At least one. But it will be more than one. It won’t be (all) eight. If I keep progressing the way I’m progressing, I will try a few.”

Wade isn’t expected to participate in the Heat’s exhibition opener Sunday in Atlanta. After two games in China, Miami plays five preseason games before it opens the regular season Oct. 30 against Boston. Wade didn’t rule out the games in China but will wait to see how the knee continues to respond in practice.

“I understand coming off of surgery, no one really knows how you’re going to respond to things,” Wade said. “I just go out and do what my body tells me to do.”

Coach Erik Spoelstra was pleased with Wade’s progress on the court after two consecutive days of practice. Wade has undergone two previous surgeries on the knee and had it drained during the playoffs last year.
