BALTIMORE — Adam Jones homered twice as part of a four-hit night, and Jonathan Schoop and Welington Castillo also went deep as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Oakland A’s 7-3 on Monday.
Jones tied a career high with the four hits, going 4-for-4. He hit a solo shot in the second inning to give Baltimore a 2-1 lead. His second homer came right after Schoop’s three-run shot in the fifth inning.
The back-to-back homers gave the Orioles (61-64) a 6-1 lead.
For Jones, it was the second multi-homer game of the season and the 12th of his career.
Castillo went deep in the eighth.
That was enough to give starter Wade Miley (7-10) his second victory in three starts. Miley lasted six-plus innings and allowed two runs and five hits. He fanned six but struggled with his control again, walking four.
White Sox 7, Twins 6 (Game 1)
CHICAGO — Yolmer Sanchez and Jose Abreu homered, and Carlos Rodon struck out nine over 6 1/3 innings as Chicago beat Minnesota in the first game of a doubleheader.
Sanchez, who drove in four runs, gave the White Sox a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning with a three-run homer. After Abreu homered to lead off the fifth inning, Sanchez’s sacrifice fly later in the inning extended Chicago’s lead to 7-1.
Following a 19-minute rain delay to start the eighth inning, Jorge Polanco got the Twins within a run with a three-run homer off White Sox reliever Derek Holland. However, after Brian Dozier doubled with two outs to represent the tying run, Jake Petricka got Joe Mauer to fly out.

ATLANTA — Yonder Alonso had three hits and three RBIs in support of left-hander Andrew Albers, who worked five effective innings in Seattle’s win over Atlanta.
Alonso was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, extending his hitting streak to eight games. Two of his hits came with two outs and the veteran is 6-for-14 on the first four games of the road trip.
Albers (2-0), who was acquired from Atlanta’s Triple-A team on Aug. 11, allowed four runs, three earned, in five innings on six hits in his second start. Albers also helped himself at the plate with two sacrifice bunts to set up two runs and with an infield single that produced his first career hit and RBI.
