Spring Recaps: Mets’ Harvey gets roughed up again

Phil Gosselin belted a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Pittsburgh Pirates posted a 6-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles Wednesday in Bradenton, Fla.

David Freese added an RBI double for the Pirates, who received four innings of two-hit, one-run baseball from Jameson Taillon.

Ubaldo Jimenez allowed three runs and walked and struck out five in 4 2/3 innings for the Orioles.

Twins 8, Cardinals 0

Adalberto Mejia fanned eight and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings as Minnesota blanked St. Louis in Fort Myers, Fla. Joe Mauer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Twins, while Chris Gimenez added a two-run single in a four-run seventh inning. Mike Leake was touched for three runs and four hits in four innings for the Cardinals.

Astros 8, Nationals 2

Jon Kemmer’s three-run homer capped a five-run third inning that gave Houston a win over Washington in West Palm Beach, Fla. Brian McCann also belted a solo shot for the Astros, while Joe Musgrove worked four innings for the win, allowing three hits and two runs. Michael Taylor tripled home a run and scored the other run for the Nationals.

Red Sox 3, Rays 3

Cole Sturgeon’s sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning tied the score as Boston and Tampa Bay played to a deadlock in Port Charlotte, Fla. Sam Travis cracked a solo homer for the Red Sox, while Casey Gillaspie gave the Rays a brief 3-2 lead with a two-run homer in the sixth. Kyle Kendrick fanned six in five scoreless innings for Boston.

Tigers 8, Braves 6

Anibal Sanchez threw four perfect innings of relief with five strikeouts as Detroit rallied to beat Atlanta in Lakeland, Fla. Andrew Romine belted a two-run homer in the third for the Tigers, while Mikie Mahtook tripled and drove in two runs. Kurt Suzuki cracked a two-run shot for the Braves, while Matt Kemp added a two-run double.

Marlins 6, Mets 2

Matt Harvey was touched for four runs and five hits over 3 1/3 innings as Miami toppled New York in Jupiter, Fla. Matt den Dekker knocked in three runs for the Marlins, while starter Justin Nicolino cruised through three scoreless innings for the win. Luis Guillorme went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Mets.
