The New York Yankees placed left-hander CC Sabathia on the 10-day injured list Sunday due to inflammation in his right knee.
Sabathia, 39, is 5-6 with a 4.78 ERA this season, the final campaign of his 19-year career.
He allowed five runs on nine hits (with two home runs) in 4 1/3 innings in Saturday’s 9-5 loss to the Boston Red Sox.
A six-time All-Star and the 2007 American League Cy Young Award winner, Sabathia is 251-159 with a 3.73 ERA and 3,068 strikeouts in 555 career starts.
The Yankees recalled infielder/outfielder Tyler Wade from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.
Wade, 24, is batting .204 with five RBIs and five stolen bases in 20 games with New York this year.
