Yankees place INF Andujar, P Loaisiga on IL

The New York Yankees placed two more players on the 10-day injured list — infielder Miguel Andujar (right labrum tear) and right-handed pitcher Jonathan Loaisiga (right shoulder strain) — on Monday.

Andujar was just 3-for-34, with no extra-base hits, since returning from the injured list because of the labrum injury. He previously missed 28 games.

“We do feel like the injury is certainly a contributing factor to some of the struggles,” New York manager Aaron Boone told reporters before Monday’s game against the visiting Baltimore Orioles, before the move was announced.

“The IL is something we might do real quickly and just give it a little timeout to declare itself a little bit more and re-evaluate it.”

Loaisiga was originally scheduled to start the Monday night series opener. Boone said that Loaisiga will not throw for at least the next four weeks.

The Yankees recalled two pitchers from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre — right-hander Chance Adams and lefty Nestor Cortes Jr.

The Yankees did have good news as they activated outfielder Aaron Hicks, who was set make his season debut Monday night — batting leadoff — after injuring his back on March 1. The team optioned outfielder Mike Tauchman to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Loaisiga earlier became the 17th member of the Yankees to go on the IL this season. In his most recent start, the second-year player allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks in four innings of a 10-1 loss to the Mariners on Wednesday.

He is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA, with 13 strikeouts and eight walks in four games (three starts) over 14 innings this season.
