Yankees option C J.C. Escarra to clear roster spot

The New York Yankees optioned catcher J.C. Escarra to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday in anticipation of infielder/outfielder Amed Rosario making his return from the injured list Tuesday.

Escarra, 30, batted .202 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 40 games after making his major league debut March 29.

Rosario, 29, was placed on the injured list Aug. 10 with a shoulder sprain after playing four games for the Yankees. He is batting .277 with five home runs and 19 RBIs in 50 combined games with the Washington Nationals and Yankees this season.

The Yankees acquired Rosario from the Nationals in a trade on July 26.
