New York Yankees left-hander James Paxton left his Friday start against the visiting Minnesota Twins due to left knee soreness.
The Yankees announced that Paxton would undergo an MRI exam on Saturday.
With the Yankees leading 2-1, Paxton was lifted after the third inning and replaced by Jonathan Holder. Paxton allowed an unearned run on two hits while throwing 64 pitches — 33 in the third inning.
After the top of the third ended, Paxton walked down the steps to the clubhouse and was accompanied by trainer Steve Donohue.
Paxton is 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA in seven starts. He was acquired from Seattle in November in a trade that sent left-hander Justus Sheffield to the Mariners.
